Securing a Teaching Position

Fellows agree to teach for three years in a high-need secondary urban or rural school, contingent on receiving their teacher certification/licensure and continuing on in their master's degree program.

From the beginning, Fellows are part of a cohort that will be assisted by their university in securing teaching positions and will continue working together, helping to promote a community of support and learning within and across their schools.

Each partner university works with Fellows to prepare for the job search process. It is recommended that Fellows begin the application and hiring process for available teaching positions beginning in the late winter/early spring of their first year in the program. Fellows should be aware that some available teaching positions may require travel up to forty-five minutes from their home.

It is strongly preferred that, if at all possible, a Fellow remains at the site where s/he is originally hired so that s/he will have the full benefit of mentoring. It is possible that a Fellow who transfers to another teaching assignment may lose some or all of the mentoring benefit, as well as some of the ongoing university services.
