Teacher Preparation at Rutgers-Camden
Teacher preparation at Rutgers-Camden is housed in the Institute for Effective Education. The Institute serves as a center for the advancement of research on effective educational strategies and programs for advancing best practices. Coursework and field experiences that lead to a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing are coordinated in the Institute. Certification programs are available in preschool through grade 3 (P-3), elementary education (K-5), middle school (5-8), subject matter fields (K-12), and Teachers of Students with Disabilities (P-12). The pillars of the Institute for Effective Education Certification Program are solid knowledge of a discipline and practical experience. We produce students who know what they are teaching about and also know how to teach what they know. Camden City School District serves approximately 15,000 Pre-K to grade 12 students attending 20 elementary/family schools, two middle schools, two traditional high schools, two magnet high schools and one nontraditional high school. Its district educational programs include computer-supported classroom instruction, a well-defined curriculum and instruction for average, academically talented and special needs students, as well as specialized study in allied health and the creative and performing arts in the magnet high schools.
- Pemberton Township Schools
Pemberton Township Schools serve nearly 5,000 students from Pemberton Township, Pemberton Borough and Fort Dix. Comprised of nine elementary schools, one middle school and one high school, Pemberton Township Schools provides a quality, comprehensive education for students in Pre-K through 12th grade in a culturally diverse and inclusive setting. Block scheduling at the middle and high school levels allows students to delve into specific subject areas for significant time periods each semester. Township Schools are participate in the AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) which provides students with the tools they need succeed in Advanced Placement and Honors courses, as well as the motivation to go on to college.
